Before I get into this tripod head I must point out that the Manfrotto 3437 3D head has been replaced by the Manfrotto 460MG. For the life of me I cant seem to track down what the difference is other than removing “Bogen” from the name. If anyone knows of a difference please let me know. The Manfrotto 3437 3D is still available here for a few dollars cheaper than the 460MG.

I purchased the Manfrotto 3437 3D to utilize with my awesome Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro Tripod Legs. The entire setup was a bit of a financial risk for. This head alone cost almost as much as the most expensive tripods I had purchased previously.

The Manfrotto 3437 3D Magnesium Head is a three way tripod head capable of holding a DSLR or SLR up to 6.5 pounds. Three way means it has the ability to pivot in three separate directions, horizontally, vertically as well as pivot around its axis. In simpler terms you can tip it up and down like nodding your head yes, tilt it left or right like a plane tipping its wings and lastly it can spin around like Linda Blair’s head in the Exorcist. This means you can orient the camera anywhere you want and that’s a good thing. The knobs to lock the head in position are quite compact and easy to adjust. The head stays exactly where you put it when the knobs are tightened. The knobs don’t facilitate that annoying creep that makes you compensate for the mechanism moving as it’s tightened.

The head also includes a bubble level for obviously leveling the tripod head.

The Manfrotto 3437 3D Magnesium Head utilizes a quick release RC2 plate for attaching the camera to the tripod head. Additional RC2 plates are available in various configurations. The RC2 plates are locked in place with a cam lever which in turn is held in place by a spring loaded lock. That’s the brass part visible in the picture of the head. This system provides for safe, secure worry free mounting of the camera.
