Best Photography Books

Below is the collection of the Best Photography Books I have found worth adding to any aspiring photographers library. While I still prefer paper books there is no mistaking the convenience of Kindle titles. Admittedly I will sometimes by both versions. It’s important to note that you do not need a Kindle to read Kindle books. You can read them an any Tablet, Mac, PC or smartphone.

Photographing Families: Tips for Capturing Timeless Images

Lighting

The Nikon Creative Lighting System

I first bought the Kindle version of this book. I returned it almost immediately. The example pictures were pages away from their text. It was impossible to follow. Not sure if this was a fluke or not because no reviewer at the time mentioned it at the time. Anyhow the paperback version is easily the first must have book for anyone using a Nikon speedlight. It’s as much an operators manual as it is a creative aid.

The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes

The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes is quite the opposite of the above book. This book is 100% creativity with stunning visual examples. The book is probably worthwhile based on the included images alone. Easily a favorite and an inspiration.

Cameras

Mastering the Nikon D800

Sure Nikon includes an owners manual with the Nikon D800 but to get a complete understanding of the power and flexibility this camera some outside help will speed up the learning curve. Mastering the Nikon D800 is an absolute must have reference for Nikon D800 owners. I own the paperback and Kindle versions of this. I like being able to refer to it on location whether from my phone, notebook or tablet.

Technical

Light Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting

I have the paperback of version three and the Kindle version 4. This book seeks to improve your photographic skills by education you in light as it pertains to photography. It’s very detailed and technical. Not for those with short attention spans.
