Photoshop is a way of life for many photographers and for others like myself it’s a necessary evil for doing basic edits. Unfortunately photoshop is complex and not intuitive to most. Below are some photoshop tips for tasks I regularly perform that might be useful to other photographers.
It’s important to understand their are multiple ways to complete tasks in photoshop. The methods outlined below work best for my needs. If you have a tip to offer please share it in the comments or reviews section and I will add it to this page.
How to Make White Perfectly White in Photoshop – Adjust White Balance Post Production
While I prefer to set white balance in camera using the custom white balance function and and one of the following tools, the Fstoppers Flash Disc Portable Light Modifier, Lastolite Ezybalance Collapsible Grey & White Exposure Aid Card, X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Photo 2, WhiBal G7 White Balance Pocket Card or Expoimaging Expodisc White Balance Filter it doesn’t always happen. Furthermore sometimes I edit others photos who had no idea about white balance. BTW you can always take a picture that includes an 80% gray object and use that as a white reference later in photoshop. That however is a subject for another post.
Make Your Whites White – Easily Adjust White Balance In Photoshop
Perform the following steps:
- Open your picture in Photoshop
- Select Image
- Select Adjustment from the image menu
- Select Levels from the Adjustment menu
- Select the Third Eye Dropper on the right
- Place the Eyedropper on Something in the Image that is Supposed to be White and left click the mouse.
Your picture should now look color accurate and your white will be perfectly white.
