Tamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC Preorder

Tamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC

Tamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC Took the plunge and pre-ordered the Tamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC lens from Amazon. A zoom in this range from Nikon is simply not affordable to casual photographers like myself.  The $1000 price tag of this Tamron is much easier to justify. Having had wonderful results with the super inexpensive Tamron SP 70-300MM F/4-5.6 Di VC USD did not give me much concern for quality. Third party lenses have come a long way. The only risk with these lenses is forward compatibility with newer bodies. That will remain an issue until all lenses include a means to upgrade the firmware. Anyhow all that is a discussion for another day. I eagerly Continue ReadingTamron AFA011N700 SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC Preorder

ExpoImaging ExpoDisc EXPOD2-77 2.0 77mm Professional White Balance Filter

ExpoDisc 2.0 Professional White Balance Filter  ExpoImaging ExpoDisc EXPOD2-77 2.0 77mm Professional White Balance Filter It’s no secret I’m a huge proponent of correcting white balance in the field as well as being a fan of using the ExpoImaging ExpoDisc  to accomplish this. Well as bad luck would have it all but one of my ExpoImaging ExpoDisc’s  seemed to have disappeared from my gear bag so I set out to get a replacement from Amazon.com because my prime membership will have it in my hand in two days with free shipping. To my horror the model I needed was discontinued. So I took a quick trip to the expoimaging website and was pleased at what I saw. The reason the Continue ReadingExpoImaging ExpoDisc EXPOD2-77 2.0 77mm Professional White Balance Filter

Nikon SB 700 vs Nikon SB 910

Nikon SB 800 vs Nikon SB 910 This is not a review. This is more of a point of view. There is enough reviews on this subject. I have nothing to offer that has not been regurgitated thousands of times by others who know much more than me. Being a mostly focused on product photography with fixed tungsten studio lighting I have not been a big user of flash and on the occasions where I do need a flash I utilize a Nikon SB 800 Speedlight or the Nikon 4804 R1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System. Recently though, I decided to branch out into more walking around, candid and minor action types of photography. I also want to become well versed Continue ReadingNikon SB 700 vs Nikon SB 910

Mother Nature Printing Postcards Today

Today was my first day out with the Nikon 105mm f/2.0D AF DC-Nikkor Lens mounted to my Nikon D800 and as you can see mother nature was quite agreeable to having her picture taken. The sharpness from this lens wide open at f/2.0 exceeds any lens I have experienced to date. The pumpkin picture above was taken at about 15 feet and cropped from a much larger image. The camera was held in a tripod and remotely fired. So far I’m pretty impressed but the real test will come with human subjects.

Stuck Lens Filter Removal Tool

Stuck Lens Filter Removal Tool   Recently the little woman dropped her Nikon D7000 while it was safely (or so we thought) stored in it’s case. It wasn’t a hard fall so she wasn’t concerned in the least. Unfortunately later that day when she was removing the Nikon D7000 from it’s case she discovered that the protective lens filter was damaged and the glass was loose inside. While disappointed at the loss of a $90 77mm B&W filter she was grateful the Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens was not damaged. Upon attempting to replace the filter a bigger issue was revealed. The protection filter had become stuck to the $1000 Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Continue ReadingStuck Lens Filter Removal Tool
